Landscape Architect / Designer & Project Manager
Richardson & Associates is a small landscape architecture firm making a big impact on landscapes throughout New England and beyond. The firm is located just minutes from the ocean, mountains, and the beautiful city of Portland, Maine. We have an outstanding roster of high quality projects currently in the office and on the horizon, and are seeking a talented individual to become an integral part of our growing team.
Richardson & Associates fosters a collaborative work environment that encourages design excellence, quality, and innovation. Our projects are diverse in scale, dynamic in range, and typically include working on integrated teams with a variety of like-minded allied professionals in many fields.
The office’s portfolio includes a diverse range of high quality, design focused projects in the private, public, and non-profit sectors. Project types include recreational, institutional, streetscapes, historic, civic, community/downtown, brownfields, and residential projects. The majority the firm’s distinctive residential work occurs on the state’s rugged coast and islands as well as within the mountains and alongside the lakes of the state’s interior.
Richardson and Associates is looking to grow our team with individuals offering a variety of experience levels to help complement the needs of the studio.
For those with limited years of experience, we are seeking a project collaborator with a BA/BS degree in Landscape Architecture/Design (Masters degree preferred) who have strong organizational, time-management, and communication skills and are comfortable taking on a variety of tasks.
The more experienced Project-Manager level applicants should have these skills, plus a minimum of four years proven project management experience, preferably with some residential projects and have a proven track record of managing, coordinating, and collaborating with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal team members for this position.
Both positions are expected to contribute to the diversity of project types (public, private, non-profit) with which the office is involved from their inception through to their completion: this includes proposal writing, budgeting, project coordination, planning, analysis, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, bidding administration, public speaking, report writing, and permitting, as well as construction documentation and administration. Applicants should have interest in a very hands-on design process including playing an active role with clients, other team members, and contractors.
Applicants should be comfortable in a fast-paced work environment involving day-to-day management of multiple projects across a wide spectrum of types, sizes, and tasks. Experience with complex residential projects is strongly preferred.
Candidates should also demonstrate a high degree of competency in areas of design and have excellent written, graphic, and technical skills. Proficiencies in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and SketchUp (and/or other 3-D modeling software) is required.
This individual must be a team player, have strong organizational, time-management, and communication skills, and be comfortable managing a diversity of tasks.

Landscape Architect / Designer

Heritage Landscapes LLC seeks an early to mid-career landscape architect or designer to enhance places of longstanding and emergent value. Illustrate, research, and write for projects to steward fascinating public landscapes around the country. Qualified applicants should describe their experience in heritage-based activities and the practice of landscape architecture and planning. All candidates must have strong organizational skills and be motivated to work independently and as part of a collaborative team. Key qualifications include:
n MLA or BLA with relevant professional experience.
n Graphic proficiency using AutoCAD and Adobe products (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign). Other software tools such as ArcGIS and 3D rendering are appreciated.
n Research and writing skills in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
n Strong comprehension and production skills for various deliverables and audiences (in-depth planning studies to construction documents).
n Adaptable communication with colleagues, project team members, and clients.
n Motivation and positive attitude while balancing multiple tasks.
n Willingness to be based out of the greater Burlington, VT area (ideally) or Norwalk, CT with occasionally travel to project locations around the US.
n Other useful skillsets from fields such as architecture, graphic design, construction, ecology, sustainability, horticulture, anthropology, history, and languages are welcome.
n Flexibility and teamwork to achieve award winning results.
Applicants should provide: 1. letter of interest indicating relevant background, 2. resume, 3. writing sample, and 4. graphic samples/portfolio with a brief explanation of your specific role if work was done as part of a team. Applicants with several years of experience should demonstrate increasing levels of professional responsibility. Initial salary range is $45,000 to $75,000, negotiable and commensurate with experience. Other benefits are provided. A minimum two-year duration is expected and a long-term commitment is preferred.
